This book is historical fiction about a children’s home in Memphis, Tennessee that literally kidnapped children from poor families and placed them for adoption with prominent, well-to-do families. This went on from the 1920s through 1950, and was sanctioned by well-known Hollywood stars and political notables such as Eleanor Roosevelt. I found the facts of this book to be horrifying and difficult to accept. Even though the motivation was completely different, as I was reading I couldn’t help comparing the separation of children from their parents to what is happening in this country today.
